TRAVEL DESCRIPTION
The Egg River flows through the provinces of Khövsgöl and Bulgan in northern Mongolia. It is the only outflow of Lake Khövsgöl and a tributary of the Selenge River. Our EMT Lodge is located on the banks of the Egg River, within the territory of Teshig Soum in Bulgan Province. Nearby our lodge are three additional rivers, all tributaries of the Egg River: the Buural, Tavt, and Tarvagtai rivers. The Egg River is a world-renowned destination for taimen anglers and is also known for many other remarkable species, including lenok, grayling, Amur trout, and pike.
Fishing on the Egg River and its surrounding tributaries is considered one of the most beautiful destinations worldwide for taimen fishing. Once we arrive, we will access the most productive sections of the river using four-wheel-drive vehicles and jet boats. We operate inflatable jet boats capable of reaching difficult and remote sections of the river that others cannot access without significant effort—or cannot reach at all. Our rafts are extremely robust and powerful, designed to handle the sometimes strong currents and rapids of the rivers. All anglers are transported daily by boat to the fishing spots. Once there, wading is the best option for fishing.
Our guides discuss the anglers’ goals and preferences each day and plan the next fishing day together as a team. Our support team prepares all equipment, accommodations, and logistics in advance for you. Typically, you will undertake daily expeditions with a lunch break on the riverbank. We change fishing areas daily, covering different river sections, and return to base camp in the evening to shower, enjoy the sauna, savor good food, and discuss the day’s adventures. Our local guides are absolutely the best—they have fished these rivers for many years and know every pool and bend. Their experience gives us a tremendous advantage in the search for the predators of Mongolia’s rivers.
